[x]OIL OF DOG
Scary Movie
Year of production: 2005
OIL OF DOG is the story about an incredible
occurrence, hair-raising and completely made up, but so brilliantly
fabricated that when taking a closer look, a certain reality can be
discerned. The story originates from the Grand Master of black humour,
Ambrose Bierce, who is at home with irony and sarcasm in the tradition
of Mark Twain, as well as Edgar Allan Poe's supersensory-gruesome style.
Uri Urech, director and video artist, tells this story in suggestive
images, which pull the audience along and down: into dungeons,
sacristies, dissecting labs... Like in nightmares, things are often not
clearly recognisable and have no fixed meaning. How can we tell the
difference between a wig and a piece of dog? Boffer Bings, childlike
and stricken by a tremor, is trembling and fidgeting through this
obscure world. In the end, his adult counterpart finds his missing
parents again, but in a different shape: a very special kind of a happy
ending indeed.
