Gleina
A village in eastern Germany. People are rarely seen in the streets; instead you can hear dogs barking and trucks speeding by on the B180 highway. Through three villagers we gain insight into life in Gleina, joining them in exploring how and where social interaction takes place in their village. In calm, evocative images, «Gleina» captures the longings, participation and everyday lives of different generations. The film shows a specific microcosm of a village in eastern Germany, but poses questions that have a universal character: What does it take to get things done together? And how do these communal activities create meaning, identity and respect for themselves and others?
