Merkwürdige Dreiecke (AT)

Sheep graze next to the motorway, a retired couple collects rubbish on the riverbank, and a work of art has to make way for the construction of a railway bridge. There are more and more construction sites, and soon every square metre will have been dug up. There are even plans to build a new motorway tunnel. Local residents are alarmed. Only the climber, the archer and the painter remain unperturbed. Marcel Scheible observes the tough struggle between the expansion of our transport infrastructure and the desire for a liveable urban periphery. Using the example of the Switzerland–Germany–France motorway junction in Basel, the director explores the forces at work on the busy outskirts of the city. The strange triangles between the transport axes unexpectedly become a stage, because the multi-layered transit location is also a cultural, social and political space. The documentary film ‘Strange Triangles’ counters the hectic hustle and bustle with patient observation and discovers a kaleidoscopic reflection of our society in a tiny space.
